Strategic Direction

June 2015

Vision

Peninsula Arts Inc. vision is for a vibrant and creative community in which the arts are celebrated as integral and essential to daily life.

Mission

Peninsula Arts Inc. will create the conditions for an engaged and arts knowledgeable community by:

  • Supporting emerging and established artists with opportunities, funding and advocacy
  • Developing and supporting ongoing strategies to support diverse local arts initiatives
  • Working with Auckland Council and the communities of Te Atatu Peninsula on commissioning and acquisition of artworks for public places

We will continue to organise and develop the biennial Harbourview Sculpture Trail, as a regionally significant event in its own right, a core contributor to our mission, and as the financial foundation stone for the sustainable achievement of Peninsula Arts Inc.’s goals over time.

Values

In our work we are guided by our belief that:

  • Community engagement in the arts fosters ownership and pride of place – Turangawaewae
  • Integration of arts in community life promotes social, economic, environmental and cultural wellbeing equally
  • Where possible, involvement in arts events and projects should be affordable to enable accessibility and participation
  • The diversity of art forms, practitioners and audiences should be honoured and supported
  • Our vision can be achieved through dialogue, collaboration and strategic partnerships with other like minded organisations
  • The principles of Te Tiriti O Waitangi will guide us in our planning and relationships, and in reflecting our bicultural and increasingly multicultural society

Context

Established in Te Atatu Peninsula, Auckland, Peninsula Arts Inc. will extend its reach through Te Atatu whole, to West Auckland, and further to the broader Auckland region and beyond. As stated in the objectives of the incorporated society, Peninsula Arts Inc. aims to promote the arts for the benefit of the people in New Zealand, and we see our aims as being relevant to all sectors in the community.

Strategic Partnerships

Strategic partnerships are critical to our success, and to this end we will create and maintain a number of key relationships. We regard Auckland Council, its Local Boards, Te Uru Contemporary Art Gallery, Corban Estate Arts Centre, and other regional arts organisations and organisations committed to community wellbeing as strategic partners, as are our major funders.

Governance

Peninsula Arts Inc. is an incorporated society and registered charity with a building membership body. Within this membership there exists an executive committee of nine board members including three officers; the President, Treasurer and Secretary. The role of the executive committee is to oversee the financial stability, sustainability and risk mitigation of all projects undertaken by the membership.

As the flagship activity of the organisation, the Harbourview Sculpture Trail is produced and delivered by a committee of volunteer members and contractors. A portion of funds raised from the Harbourview Sculpture Trail activity are committed toward the sustainability of the event, and invested for the broader mission of Peninsula Arts; such as funding support for emerging and established artists and the commissioning and installation of public artworks in the longer term.

Our Board

The people on our executive committee bring value and direction to our charitable purpose and the values that we stand for.
